PROECTIVE FILTERS
  • Thermashield
  • Super Heat Shield™
  • UV Filter
  • IR/UV Filter (Hot Mirror)

  • THERMASHIELD

Specially coated film reflects infrared energy to extend the life of color in super hot lighting fixtures.
    • Proprietary multi-layer coating reflects most of the infrared energy, thereby reducing radiated heat
    • Allows the use of plastic color filters in fixtures with very hot lamps
    • Protects performers and products from heat generated by stage or film & television lamps
When heat is a problem in television, theatre, display or architectural lighting, Thermashield is the answer. Thermashield reduces the adverse effects of heat on performers and products used in commercials. Where hot lamps are used, it helps protect plastic color filters as well as other heat sensitive objects.

Rosco's Thermashield is an optical grade polyester film, finished on one side with a proprietary vacuum-deposited multi-layer coating. Set in the beam of a lighting instrument, it will reflect back infra-red energy, effectively reducing the radiated heat, while transmitting 80% of the visible light.

It is important to allow air space between the Thermashield and the color filter. This will allow much of the otherwise damaging heat energy to dissipate. It is necessary to affix Thermashield with the coated side facing the lamp. Each sheet of Thermashield is clearly marked so that users can easily identify which side of the clear film should be facing the lamp. If the label becomes detached, or if the sheet is cut so that the label is no longer available, there is an alternative technique. When tested with an ohm meter, only the coated side (the side which must face the lamp) will be conductive.

Thermashield permits the full range of Rosco color filters in fixtures which previously permitted only the use of glass or dichroics for color. Thermashield will boost the Kelvin temperature of a 3200° source about 300° Kelvin (a mired shift of approximately -10). The material is available in 12" x 12", 20" x 24" and 48"x48" sheets.

    SUPER HEAT SHIELD™
    • Rosco's Super Heat Shield Filter deflects heat from the color filter, minimizing the effects of high temperatures. Properly used, it increases the life of color filters in very hot fixtures without reducing light transmission.
Super Heat Shield deflects convected heat due to an extremely heat stable polymer base and properties inherent in its resin. Super Heat Shield is generally used to protect color filters in long range applications, especially when using dark colors such as blues and greens.

Super Heat Shield should be positioned between the lens and the color filter, allowing space on each side of the filter for the escape of heated air. Extenders which allow at least 1/2" of air space on each side of the Super Heat Shield will permit adequate venting and insure the longevity of the Super Heat Shield filter.

    UV FILTER
    • Rosco's UV Filter blocks the near UV wavelengths while transmitting the visible rays. Ideal for applications where ultraviolet rays have a harmful effect.
Rosco's UV Filter is widely used in locations where ultraviolet rays would have a detrimental effect on objects under illumination. The near UV rays will cause dye degradation of textiles, paper fibers and plastics. Rosco's UV Filter is very effective at blocking these wavelengths while transmitting visible light rays. Clear to the eye, it can be used on light sources, windows or showcases.

UV Filter is widely used by photographers to inhibit the ultraviolet output of strobes and arc lights. Certain dyes, inks and textile whiteners tend to fluoresce when exposed to ultraviolet radiation. This can result in color shifts when certain types of color reversal films are used.

Where clothing or decorating textiles are displayed, fading is a major problem. When used on the light source or showcase, Rosco's UV Filter will significantly reduce the loss of color and help maintain its vibrancy over time.

UV Filter is available in sheets, rolls and sleeves to facilitate the filtering of fluorescent lamps. Adding a UV Filter sleeve is strongly recommended when using color filter sleeves. By using the UV Filter, color can be preserved considerably longer.

The UV Filter is a virtually transparent filter, specially coated to absorb ultraviolet rays. The material allows less than 10% transmission below 390 nanometers. NOTE: A black light filter passes UV. Rosco's filter absorbs UV.
