The designer specified a plank wood floor for a production “The Exonerated”. But the company at L.A. Pierce College had to present the play in a temporary performance space while its theatre was being renovated.
The stage surface of the temporary performance space was masonite. Masonite in the theatre, plank wood in the spec. Now what?
That’s when the students and faculty in the scene shop took over. Using a mix of Off Broadway scenic paints and acrylic glaze and brushes, rollers and graining tools they created a realistic plank wood floor.
